Definition of First Aid
The definition of First Aid means the provision of emergency treatment and life support for people who are ill or injured before summoning proffessional medical help. The first aider is the individual giving assistance to an individual in need of first aid.
The Good Smaritan Act has been proposed by parliament in Summer 2014 and should come into effect in 2015. It is hoped it will alleviate the fear of being sued carrying out first aid. The first aid assistance should be reasonable within the first aiders skill set of their job or taught on a first aid course. A rescuer cannot benefit from the Good Samaritan Act if their assistance is deemed to be reckless or grossly negligent.
